Presidential Running Mates

In 1984, Geraldine A. Ferraro became the first woman to run for vice president on a major party national ticket, when she was chosen by Walter F. Mondale, the Democratic nominee, to be his running mate.

Friday, Senator John McCain astonished the political world on Friday by naming Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska, his running rate.
