Generation Y's Bill of Rights

MeriTalk is an online community talking about technology and public policy. They ask the question: Does your opinion have merit? Then, they challenge cititens to read, write, speak and get involved.

In April 2008, MeriTalk conducted a national survey of Generation Y (people born between 1980 and 1994) and Baby Boomers (1946 and 1964).

Survey results released on June 30th include recommendations to the next President in the form of a bill of rights:

The Generation Y's Bill of Rights:
1. To speak up - establish personal connections with the people
2. To use online tools - establish a closer, more interactive relations with people through the use of online tools
3. To seek its own counsel - respect peer news sources and the people's right to measure credibility as they choose
4. To choose its information channels - expand its notion of communication
5. To the full picture - be honesty and inform the people of problems, solutions and plans to implement them
6. To actively Contribute and know truth - encourage people to participate in conversation, get involved, and tell others why they support leaders they trust
7. To ignore boundaries - win the people's support through aligning values, not party affiliation
8. To a fair start - make the economy, funding for education and jobs --- all priorities now
9. To see change - implement read changes that deliver tangible results addressing the people's top issues.
10. To believe in Amercia - validate people's optimism by solving problems
