Are you an American idol wannabe? Do you love ham’n it up with karaoke? Seize this opportunity!

Beginning June 9 and ending August 16, 2008, any teen aged 12 – 18 can create a song and enter into the Virginia Beach Public Library’s Song Contest. Your song needs to promote the Virginia Beach Public Library and all it offers teens. Your song should influence other teens to check out the library and all it’s treasures – books, graphic novels, CDs, computers, gaming, DVDs, downloadable audio and more!

WHO CAN ENTER THE CONTEST?
Any teen or group of teens (4 maximum) aged 12-18 who has written permission of parent or guardian.

HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST?
1. Teens may send in only one entry. An entry form must be submitted to chart@vbgov.com, by midnight on August 16, 2008.
2. Songs must be uploaded in mp3 format to Archive.org by midnight on August 16, 2008 and tagged with the phrase VBPL2008.
3. Songs can be no longer than 3 minutes. All entries should be between 1.5 and 3 minutes in length.
4. Lyrics must be typed and submitted with the contest entry form.

WHO WINS?
The Virginia Beach Public Library review panel will judge the songs. The review panel will select three finalists and one winner. All decisions made by the review panel are final.
Judges will be looking for content that promotes library services, resources. Well-written and audible lyrics, creative approach, and clear-sounding production quality (sound effects enhance rather than detract) will be important.

WHAT DO I WIN?

ALL ENTRIES - Every entry will be acknowledged with a certificate.FINALISTS – The songs selected as finalists will appear on the Virginia Beach Public Library web site. Each of the three finalists will receive one free book from the Virginia Beach Public Library.THE WINNER(s) –The winner(s) will receive one free book and a $25 gift certificate from a major bookstore. The winning song may be used by the Virginia Beach Public Library in marketing and promotional materials.
